Commemorate his life
One of the best ways to find closure is to hold a memorial service. Whether you choose to bury or scatter his ashes in a place that holds special meaning, a memorial service gives you and your family the chance to say goodbye.
Create a legacy
- plant a tree or flowers in your pet’s favorite spot
- name a star in his honor
- create a shadow box with items like a collar, toy, or blanket
- have a portrait rendered
- or get creative with your pet’s food or water dish
Here is an idea we found that many people love. Below are ways to keep your pet’s memories alive. Clean the pet’s water or food dish and then drill some holes on the underside. Around the top, attach their collar using a hot glue gun. Then make several treasured plants grow in the bowl. This Pet Bowl Planter makes such a great keepsake!
Start new tradition
On your pet’s birthday, acknowledge its life by volunteering at a local shelter or donate to an animal charity
Remember, August 28th marks Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. Whilst the pain of losing a pet somewhat heals over time, they are never forgotten, and today is their day. The day was founded by author Deborah Barnes as a way for people to share their memories of the pets that they have lost, whether it’s a dog, a hamster, or a snake.
